The instantaneous seabed liquefaction around offshore pile-type foundation and seabed protection under combined wave and current loading

چکیده

The physical processes involved in the wave–seabed–mono-pile interactions are rather complex, and its upper lower structures affected by different loads. This paper presents application of a three-dimensional numerical model, which was validated with laboratory experiments available literature. First, soil response induced combined wave current around mono-pile is discussed, then stability pile foundation further evaluated. Numerical examples demonstrate run-up distribution seabed liquefaction piles closely related to characteristics ocean currents. Meanwhile, for group system, hydrodynamic dynamic regarded as function layout, will affect development near-trapping phenomenon under wave–current loading. Furthermore, protection mattresses proven be an effective option reducing potential liquefaction, not considered previous studies.

Offshore geohazards and seabed mobility

This research stream is focussed on offshore hazards, with particular attention to the mobility of the seabed – whether through large scale geological events, or local scale sediment transport processes. This report is divided into two broad areas. We have extensive activity to report on the subject of seabed mobility, through studies around the O-Tube program (see also the separate report on t...

Dynamic Response of an Offshore Pile, a Poro-Elastic Seabed and Seawater due to Water Waves

In this study, a coupled model is developed to address the dynamic response of an offshore pile to linear water waves. In the coupled model, the pile and the seabed are treated as a saturated poro-elastic medium described by Biot’s dynamic theory, while the seawater is considered as a conventional acoustic medium. To establish the coupled model, boundary element formulations for saturated porou...

Turbidity Current Hydrodynamics and Seabed Morphology

Our main goal is to assess the hydrodynamics of turbidity currents and mudflows and their ability to produce morphological features such as ripples, dunes, antidunes and gullies along their paths. Of particular interest is to elucidate the role played by turbidity currents on the inception of submarine channels and canyons. To this end, understanding the mechanics of sediment erosion, including...

Accurate Prediction of Wave-induced Seabed Liquefaction at Shallow depths using Multi-Artificial Neural Networks

In past decades, considerable effort has been devoted to the phenomenon of wave-induced liquefaction, because it is one of the most important factors for analysing the seabed and designing marine structures. As waves propagate and fluctuate over the ocean surface, energy is carried within the medium of the water particles. This energy could be transmitted into the seabed, which results in the r...
